Used Toyota Camry Saloon

A used Camry sourced out of China rather than out of America. Left hand drive as it left the factory, a four cylinder engine instead of a V6, and 2015 or newer so the age rule never comes into it. One unit is a normal order.

Description

Ask a mechanic anywhere from Ladipo to Aba which car he would rather work on and the answer is the Camry. That is not brand loyalty. It is that the parts are on the shelf, the failures are already known, and nobody has to guess.

What we source is a Camry, used, out of China rather than out of America. That sentence usually produces one of two reactions, so both are worth dealing with here.

The first is the assumption that a car from China is a Chinese car. This one is not. It was built by GAC Toyota, Toyota's joint venture in Guangzhou, on the same platform and to the same drawings as the car you already know. The parts that fit it are ordinary Camry parts with ordinary Toyota part numbers. The objection people raise about Chinese vehicles, that parts are hard to find and resale suffers, is an objection to Chinese marques. It does not transfer to a Toyota.

The second is the engine, and here the Chinese car is genuinely different. Toyota never sold the 3.5 litre V6 Camry in China. The range there is a 1,998 cc four and a 2,487 cc four. That has always been a fuel argument, and since 1 July 2026 it is also a tax argument, because Nigeria's green tax charges nothing below 2,000 cc and two per cent from 2,000 to 3,999 cc. The American V6 sits in the taxed band. The Chinese 2.0 does not.

On the road you meet it as fuel. The 2.5 returns 6.0 litres per 100 km on the Chinese cycle and the 2.0 returns 6.5. A V6 Camry does not come near either figure, and over three years of Lagos traffic that difference is larger than most of the specification sheet.

The car itself is 4,885 mm long on a 2,825 mm wheelbase in the current shape, four doors, five seats, with an eight speed automatic behind the 2.5 making 154 kW and 250 N.m. Trim names read E, G, S and Q rather than LE, SE and XLE. Same car, different labels on the brochure.

Then the two rules that decide whether a used car can land at all. It has to be left hand drive, which every Chinese car is. And it has to be no more than twelve years old from its year of manufacture, which puts 2014 at the legal edge. We work to 2015 and newer, so nothing depends on how an officer reads a build plate.

The recall to ask about before you pay

One campaign matters on this car. In November 2020 China's market regulator recorded a GAC Toyota recall covering 232,351 vehicles for a fuel pump impeller that can swell and bind in its housing. Eighth generation Camry units built between 24 April 2018 and 24 May 2019 fall inside it. The symptom is hard starting, or a stall in traffic.

Cars built after mid 2019 carry the corrected part from new. On a car inside the window the only question is whether the campaign was performed, and that is a matter of record rather than opinion.

We check it and we tell you either way. It goes on the report we send you with the unit, alongside the mileage reading, the accident check and the service history. Where the campaign is outstanding it gets done before the car is loaded.

Put the same question to anyone else quoting you a 2018 or 2019 Camry. The answer, or the absence of one, tells you what kind of supplier you are dealing with.

Specification

Figures are Chinese-market manufacturer and homologation data for the model years we source. Trim varies more in this market than any brochure suggests, so the specific unit is checked against its own certificate before we quote.

Body Four door, five seat saloon
Model years sourced 2015 and newer. 2014 sits at the legal edge of the twelve year rule and we stay clear of it
Engines offered in China 1,998 cc 6AR-FSE, or 2,487 cc A25A on the current shape. The 3.5 litre V6 was never sold in China
Power and torque, 2.5 154 kW, 209 PS, and 250 N.m
Power and torque, 2.0 124 kW, 169 PS, and 201 N.m
Transmission Eight speed automatic on the 2.5, six speed automatic on the 2.0
Fuel consumption 6.0 litres per 100 km on the 2.5 and 6.5 on the 2.0, Chinese NEDC cycle
Dimensions 4,885 x 1,840 x 1,455 mm on a 2,825 mm wheelbase
Green tax band Nil on the 1,998 cc car. Two per cent on the 2,487 cc car. Four per cent begins at 4,000 cc and nothing here reaches it
Built by GAC Toyota, Guangzhou. Parts carry ordinary Toyota part numbers
Trim naming E, G, S and Q. There is no LE, SE or XLE in this market
Drive side Left hand drive as built, which is what Nigeria registers
Ground clearance Not published on the Chinese certificate. We measure it on the unit rather than repeat a figure we cannot support

We do not publish prices, because the landed figure depends on the specification, the Customs valuation and the exchange rate on the day you pay.

Minimum order

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single car is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Where you are buying several, consolidating into one shipment reduces the cost per unit. A forty foot container ships at a flat rate whatever is inside it, and that rate divides across the cars in it. Freight also forms part of the CIF value duty is calculated on, so the saving reaches the duty bill as well as the shipping invoice.

Saloons of this size pack efficiently, so this is where the per unit figure moves most on a small fleet order. We will tell you at what quantity it starts to matter for your route.

Lead time. About six to eight weeks quay to quay on the Lagos route, plus one to two weeks at origin for inspection, export paperwork and loading, and a further period for clearing and the drive out of the port. On used units the time before shipment depends on finding the right car rather than on manufacture, so we give you a range and keep you informed rather than a fixed date we cannot control.

What decides the right one

The engine first, because it decides both the fuel bill and the tax band. The 1,998 cc car pays no green tax and drinks less. The 2,487 cc car pays two per cent and pulls better with five people aboard. Neither is wrong, but it is a decision worth making deliberately rather than accepting whatever is available.

Then the year. Twelve years from manufacture is the legal ceiling, so 2014 is the edge in 2026 and 2015 upwards is the sensible working range. A car bought at the edge loses that margin every year you own it, which matters if you ever intend to sell it on.

Then the record. On a used car the VIN history, the mileage reading and the outstanding recall position are worth more than any trim feature. A well documented mid trim beats a badly documented top trim every time.

If a Camry is not what the job needs, say what the job is. We source across saloons, SUVs and commercial vehicles, and we would rather point you at the right car than sell you a familiar one.

Common questions

What is the minimum order?

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single car is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Does ordering more than one reduce the cost?

Yes, on freight and clearing. A forty foot container ships at a flat rate whatever is inside it, and that rate divides across the cars in it. Freight also forms part of the CIF value duty is calculated on, so the saving reaches the duty bill as well as the shipping invoice. Two saloons this size fit comfortably and three fit with proper bracing.

Is this a Chinese car?

No. It is a Toyota built by GAC Toyota in Guangzhou, which is Toyota's own joint venture. The parts carry Toyota part numbers and Ladipo already stocks them. What people mean when they warn you about Chinese cars is Chinese marques, and that warning does not apply here.

Why is the engine smaller than the Camry I know?

Because China was never sold the V6. You gain on two counts. Fuel, at 6.0 to 6.5 litres per 100 km rather than what a V6 drinks in traffic. And tax, because Nigeria's green tax is nil below 2,000 cc and two per cent above it, so the 1,998 cc car lands in the free band.

Can I get a V6 Camry from this channel?

Not from China, because it was never sold there. If a V6 is what you want, say so and we will price one from a market that had it, and show you what the green tax adds so you are choosing with the full figure in front of you.

How do I know the mileage is real?

You get the VIN, the recorded mileage, the service history and an accident check before you commit, not after. Where the record and the car disagree we say so and move to another unit. A supplier who will not put that in writing is telling you something.

Which model years can actually land?

Used vehicles more than twelve years old from year of manufacture are prohibited, which makes 2014 the oldest legally importable year in 2026. Clearing agents advise staying a year clear of the edge, so we work to 2015 and newer.
