Chery Tiggo 2 Pro Compact SUV

A 4.2 metre SUV with 165 mm of ground clearance, a 420 litre boot and a 50 litre tank, homologated to Euro 6 for export. Small enough for Lagos traffic, tall enough for the roads that get you there. One unit is a normal order.

Description

Most compact SUVs are hatchbacks with cladding round the arches. The clearance is decorative and the first serious pothole proves it.

The Tiggo 2 Pro carries 165 mm under it. That is a real figure, and it is the difference between clearing a broken kerb and hearing something expensive scrape. At 4,200 mm long it still parks where a Highlander will not, and it turns in traffic that a bigger SUV has to negotiate.

The engine is a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated four cylinder, code SQRD4G15, making 109 PS and 140 N.m through a five speed manual to the front wheels. There is no turbocharger, no direct injection and no particulate filter. It is a simple engine and a mechanic in Ikeja can work on it with ordinary tools. A stop-start system is fitted.

Be clear-eyed about the power figure. 109 PS is modest, and this is not a fast car. What it is instead is cheap to run, cheap to fix and difficult to break, which on Nigerian roads over five years is usually the better trade.

The boot holds 420 litres and the tank holds 50. Kerb weight is 1,229 kg, which is light, and light is why a small engine is enough.

One thing separates this from the cheaper domestic Chery small SUV. This one is homologated to Euro 6 for export markets, and it comes with an international parts channel and an export warranty behind it. The domestic car does not, whatever the badge on the back says.

109 PS is the honest number

This is not a powerful car. 109 PS and 140 N.m moves 1,229 kg adequately and no more. Loaded with five people and luggage on a long climb, you will be working the gearbox. We are not going to pretend otherwise.

What you get for accepting that. An engine with nothing on it to fail. No turbocharger, no high pressure fuel system, no particulate filter. Fuel consumption stays low and any workshop in the country can service it. Over five years on Nigerian roads that combination usually beats a more powerful, more complicated car.

If you need real overtaking performance, say so. We will quote the turbocharged saloon or a larger SUV instead. We would rather move you to the right vehicle than oversell this one.

On the two rules that end most cheap finds: this is left hand drive, which is what Nigeria registers, and it is a new unit, so the twelve year age limit does not come into it.

Figures are manufacturer specification for the export model. Exact configuration is confirmed against the specific unit before we quote.

We do not publish prices, because the landed figure depends on the specification, the Customs valuation and the exchange rate on the day you pay.

Minimum order

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single vehicle is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Where you are buying several, consolidating into one shipment reduces the cost per unit. A forty foot container ships at a flat rate whatever is inside it, and that rate divides across the vehicles in it. Freight also forms part of the CIF value duty is calculated on, so the saving reaches the duty bill as well as the shipping invoice.

Vehicles this size pack efficiently, so the step from one unit to three is where the per unit figure moves most. We will tell you where that lands for your route.

Lead time. About six to eight weeks quay to quay on the Lagos route, plus one to two weeks for export preparation at origin and a further period for clearing and the drive out of the port. Lead time depends on availability, shipping schedule and clearing rather than on manufacture, so we give you a range and keep you informed rather than a fixed date we cannot control.

What decides the right one

Ground clearance against the roads you actually drive. 165 mm handles broken tarmac, standing water and compound entrances. It does not handle a construction site, and we will say so rather than take the order.

Then the boot, at 420 litres, which is the figure that makes this a family car rather than a city runabout.

Then the engine, honestly. 109 PS is modest and the car is light enough to live with it. What you are buying is low running cost and an engine that any workshop can fix, not performance.

And before all of that, which range the vehicle comes from. Export or domestic decides whether parts exist for it in year three.

If this is not the right vehicle, the process does not change. Send the model, a photograph or a link, and we trace the unit, check the specification against the sales talk, and come back with a delivered Naira price with every line itemised.

Common questions

What is the minimum order?

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single vehicle is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Does ordering more than one reduce the cost?

Yes, on freight and clearing. A forty foot container ships at a flat rate whatever is inside it, and that rate divides across the vehicles in it. Freight also forms part of the CIF value duty is calculated on, so the saving reaches the duty bill as well as the shipping invoice. Vehicles this size pack well, so three fit with proper bracing.

Is 165 mm of clearance enough for bad roads?

For broken tarmac, flooded streets, speed bumps and unpaved compound access, yes. For sustained rough laterite or site work, take a pickup instead. This is a road vehicle with useful clearance, not an off roader.

How is this different from the cheaper Chery small SUV?

The cheaper one is usually a China domestic model. Similar size, lower price, and no international parts channel or export warranty behind it. Send us the exact model and we will tell you which range it comes from before you pay anything.

Is 109 PS enough?

For town driving and normal highway use with a light load, yes. For a fully loaded car on long climbs, it is adequate rather than comfortable. If that matters to you, we will quote something with a turbo.

How long does it take?

Roughly six to eight weeks on the water to Lagos, plus one to two weeks for export preparation at origin and clearing at this end.

Send us the model, or a photograph, or a link. Tracing a specific vehicle, checking which range it comes from and telling you what it costs delivered in Naira is the service. This one is an example of it.
