Used Honda Accord Saloon

A 1,498 cc turbo making 194 PS and 260 N.m, returning 6.0 litres per 100 km, in a saloon on a 2,830 mm wheelbase. Below the green tax threshold, left hand drive as built, 2015 or newer. One unit is a normal order.

Description

The Accord sits one step above the Camry in most Nigerian buyers' minds and one step below it in listing volume, and the people who choose it usually know exactly why. It drives better. That has been true for three generations and it is true of the Chinese car.

What is different about the Chinese car is the engine range, and it is a narrow range. From April 2018 the Accord in China is a 1,498 cc turbo and nothing else, in two states of tune, with a hybrid above it. The 2.0 litre turbo and the ten speed automatic that America gets were never sold there.

A 1.5 litre engine in a car this size sounds thin until you look at what it does. The volume version, badged 260TURBO, makes 143 kW and 260 N.m through a CVT. That is more torque than the old 2.4 litre naturally aspirated Accord made, from an engine two thirds the size, and it returns 6.0 litres per 100 km on the Chinese cycle. Honda's own owners report around 7 litres per 100 km in real use, which is an honest figure to plan around rather than the brochure one.

The tax consequence is worth stating. Nigeria's green tax has charged nothing below 2,000 cc since 1 July 2026 and two per cent above it. At 1,498 cc this car is not near the threshold. The American 2.0 turbo, at 1,996 cc, would also clear it, but it is not available from this channel and it is a thirstier engine besides.

The body is 4,893 mm long on a 2,830 mm wheelbase, which is longer between the axles than a Camry, and it is felt in the back seat. Trim is badged by torque rather than by name, so you will see 230TURBO and 260TURBO with Comfort, Elite, Luxury, Premium and Flagship above them, rather than LX, Sport and Touring.

It is built by GAC Honda in Guangzhou, which is Honda's own joint venture, so the parts are ordinary Accord parts. It is left hand drive as built. Under the twelve year rule 2014 is the oldest year that can legally land in 2026, and we work to 2015 and newer.

One recall on this car matters more in Lagos than it does anywhere else, and it has its own section below. Read it.

The recall that was written for weather like ours

What happened. In August 2019 GAC Honda recalled roughly 222,700 tenth generation 1.5 turbo Accords built between 25 July 2017 and 7 August 2019. Airflow at the intercooler outlet allowed condensation to collect. Under hard acceleration, water droplets reached the combustion chamber, the engine misfired and the protection system cut power.

Why it matters more here than in China. The fault is provoked by heat, humidity and heavy rain. That is a description of Lagos for half the year. A car that never showed the symptom in a dry province may show it on the third bridge in July.

The fix is real and it takes ninety minutes. Honda fitted an optimised device at the intercooler outlet. On a car inside the build window, the only question is whether it was done, and that is a matter of record.

Separately, oil dilution. The 1.5 turbo family is known for petrol working past the rings into the sump on short cold start journeys. Honda addressed it by recalibration and the 2019 build calibrations reduce it. It is a service habit question rather than a fault: long enough runs, and oil changed on schedule rather than on mileage alone.

We confirm the recall position in writing on any 2018 or 2019 Accord before you commit, and where it is outstanding it gets done before the car is loaded. Ask anyone else quoting you one the same question.

Specification

Figures are Chinese-market manufacturer and homologation data for the model years we source. The specific unit is checked against its own certificate before we quote.

Body Four door, five seat saloon
Model years sourced 2015 and newer. 2014 sits at the legal edge of the twelve year rule and we stay clear of it
Engine, tenth generation from 2018 1,498 cc turbocharged four. Code L15BN as 260TURBO, or L15BM as 230TURBO. A 2.0 litre hybrid sits above them
Engine, ninth generation to 2018 2,356 cc naturally aspirated four, code K24W, and a 2.0 litre
Power and torque, 260TURBO 143 kW, 194 PS, and 260 N.m
Power and torque, 230TURBO 130 kW, 177 PS, and 230 N.m from 1,500 to 3,000 rpm
Transmission CVT. The ten speed automatic sold in America was never offered in China
Fuel consumption 6.0 litres per 100 km on the 260TURBO, Chinese NEDC cycle. Owner reported figures run closer to 7
Dimensions 4,893 x 1,862 x 1,449 mm on a 2,830 mm wheelbase
Green tax band Nil on the 1,498 cc turbo. Two per cent on the older 2,356 cc car, which crosses the 2,000 cc threshold
Built by GAC Honda, Guangzhou. Parts carry ordinary Honda part numbers
Trim naming Badged by torque, 230TURBO or 260TURBO, then Comfort, Elite, Luxury, Premium or Flagship. There is no LX, Sport or Touring here
Drive side Left hand drive as built, which is what Nigeria registers
Ground clearance Not reliably published for this generation. We measure it on the unit rather than repeat a figure we cannot support

We do not publish prices, because the landed figure depends on the specification, the Customs valuation and the exchange rate on the day you pay.

Minimum order

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single car is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Where you are buying several, consolidating into one shipment reduces the cost per unit. A forty foot container ships at a flat rate whatever is inside it, and that rate divides across the cars in it. Freight also forms part of the CIF value duty is calculated on, so the saving reaches the duty bill as well as the shipping invoice.

Saloons of this size pack efficiently, so this is where the per unit figure moves most on a small fleet order. We will tell you at what quantity it starts to matter for your route.

Lead time. About six to eight weeks quay to quay on the Lagos route, plus one to two weeks at origin for inspection, export paperwork and loading, and a further period for clearing and the drive out of the port. Where a recall is outstanding on the unit, the workshop time is added before loading and we tell you what it adds. On used units the time before shipment depends on finding the right car rather than on manufacture.

What decides the right one

The generation, first. A tenth generation car from 2018 onwards is a 1.5 turbo with a CVT and the more modern cabin. A ninth generation car is a 2.4 naturally aspirated engine, simpler to maintain, thirstier, and it crosses the 2,000 cc line so it carries the two per cent green tax. Those are two different cars sharing a badge.

Then the recall position, which on a 2018 or 2019 car is the single most important line on the report. It is answerable, so answer it.

Then the service history, because the 1.5 turbo rewards a car that was serviced on time and punishes one that was not. On this engine a thin service record should move the price, not be argued past.

Then the trim, which is the least important of the four and the one most buyers start with.

If an Accord is not what the job needs, say what the job is. We source across saloons, SUVs and commercial vehicles.

Common questions

What is the minimum order?

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single car is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Does ordering more than one reduce the cost?

Yes, on freight and clearing. A forty foot container ships at a flat rate whatever is inside it, and that rate divides across the cars in it. Freight also forms part of the CIF value duty is calculated on, so the saving reaches the duty bill as well as the shipping invoice. Two saloons this size fit comfortably.

A 1.5 litre engine in a car this size. Is that not too small?

It makes 260 N.m, which is more than the 2.4 litre Accord it replaced. Small displacement and low output are not the same thing on a turbocharged engine. What you should weigh instead is that it is a turbo, so it wants correct oil and correct intervals, and that it drives through a CVT rather than a conventional automatic.

Is a CVT a problem in Lagos traffic?

No, and it is arguably the right gearbox for it. CVTs are smooth in stop and start conditions and have no clutch packs to cook. They want the correct fluid at the correct interval like any automatic, and they do not forgive being ignored.

Can I get the 2.0 turbo with the ten speed automatic?

Not from China. That combination was sold in America and never in the Chinese range. If it is what you want, say so and we will price it from a market that had it.

Accord or Camry?

The Accord drives better and has the longer wheelbase. The Camry has the deeper parts pool and the broader mechanic base, which is why it outsells everything. If the car will be worked hard by someone other than you, that second point carries more weight than it looks like it should.

Which model years can actually land?

Used vehicles more than twelve years old from year of manufacture are prohibited, which makes 2014 the oldest legally importable year in 2026. We work to 2015 and newer.
