Specification

Capacity and dimensions	Commonly 16 to 22 litres, roughly 38 to 45 centimetres tall. Ask for all three dimensions in centimetres rather than the litre figure, because litres are quoted loosely and the height decides whether an exercise book sits flat.
Age suitability	Smaller 12 to 16 litre bags suit nursery and lower primary, 16 to 22 litres suits upper primary, and secondary pupils need the taller body that takes an A4 file. Buy by school stage rather than by age.
Printing	Sublimation and screen prints in two to six colourways, plus plain single-colour bodies. Licensed cartoon characters carry a real risk, because a trader holding obvious counterfeit artwork can have the goods seized. Order generic prints instead.

Branding	A school crest can be screen printed or embroidered on the front pocket, with a woven label at the top handle. Order plain single-colour bodies for this, because a crest printed over artwork reads as a mistake.

Custom artwork, school crests and non-standard colours each tend to carry their own minimum on top. A first order is nearly always better placed on stock prints in a standard size, and placed early enough that the container lands before resumption.
